A non - EHO's view of the industry

I am going to take this opportunity to give my two penneth’s worth on the contract catering, leisure and hotel industries. All too often I feel rather bewildered in this organisation when the consultants are discussing the complexities of HACCP, the risks of Sous Vide cooking and the juxtaposition between new age tablet auditing against the merits of pen and paper auditing. This is my time to shed light on the weekly going’s on in our target sectors.

ESB presents new 'Noise at Work' service

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 are based on a European Union Directive (2003/10/EE and require the protection of workers from the risks of hearing damage caused by exposure to noise. Hearing damage caused by exposure to noise is permanent and incurable and it is estimated that over 2 million people are exposed to noise levels at work that can be harmful.

A Lectern’s Eye View

Chef has been in work since 6.30 a.m.  It’s now 3.00pm and she has to attend a two hour training session on Kitchen Safety…. a challenge or what?  She will have walked a good few miles throughout the course of the day and worked extremely hard, creating a superb lunch service. So with the best will in the world, she is challenging her eyelids to stay open!  I feel sorry for her, I really do.  But I feel sorry for the trainer too!

Firework Safety

A key topic at the moment for those of us in the safety industry is bonfire night. The Bureau has put together some info for November 5th. In 2004, The Secretary of State introduced the Fireworks Regulations and whilst these are available for public consumption, we have simplified a few of the guidelines for you.

The proof of the studying....

Who was it that first said, ‘The proof of the pudding is in the eating’?  An old wife, a thoughtful sage or maybe even John Prescott?  Taken literally, it’s a phrase that rings true for anyone in the food and hospitality industry.  A sticky toffee pudding may look delicious; its golden, caramel sauce glistening with calorific scrumptiousness but, steamed for too long into a lumpen, leaden mass, it all too often weighs heavy on the stomach, a disappointment to both chef and customer.

Relay 2

Following the launch of the new esb.eu.com website, The European Safety Bureau is proud to announce that its ‘Relay’ client portal has undergone an emancipation. The new look ‘Relay’ boasts online accident reporting, reporting of an EHO Visit, and the reporting of food complaints. Alongside the reporting function, ‘Relay’ has within it an audit report library for storing a particular client’s reports and a documentation library which includes policies, legislation and food & allergy alerts.

Lucky Number 7 - Tips on why a strong website is crucial

Although slightly outside of our usual sphere of operation, we felt it most timely to write a brief article on the importance of a strong website.

  1. Far cheaper and much more flexible than print

Content can be amended at a moment’s notice if you use a content management system and a wider audience can potentially be reached.

Changes galore

There have been a great number of changes over the past few months here at the European Safety Bureau. First and foremost, we have moved office to Rushall Field Farm in Woodhouse, Leicestershire. Whilst Bradgate House served us well for 7 years, we felt it was time to emulate the growth of the business and move to larger and more aesthetically pleasing surroundings. In fact, the background of this blog is the outlook from the main office.

The Bureau boosts number of employees

The last month has brought a number of significant changes at The European Safety Bureau to ensure that we continue to provide a first class service to our expanding profile of clients. The most significant of these changes is the addition of six new members of staff; five new consultants and one new member of the head office admin team.

Stuart Clarke has been recruited to operate in London and the South East and is based in Woking. He joins us from Mid Devon District Council.
